Houston was thought to be a sure playoff team at the beginning of the season, but with an 8-11 record through 19 games, it’s looking as if the Rockets will be fighting all season for position in the conference standings.

Dallas has the exact opposite record of the Rockets, sitting at 11-8 through 19 contests. Dirk Nowitzki has been his regular, sharp-shooting self, making about 45 percent of his three-pointers this season and averaging 17.5 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. It’s clear that he’s aging well and hasn’t seen a huge decline in production.

The addition of Deron Williams over the offseason definitely eased the blow of losing out on DeAndre Jordan who had reportedly agreed to a deal with the Mavs, but then backed out. The Mavericks are the fifth-best team in the Western Conference, but are technically tied with two other teams for third.
