Losers: Los Angeles Dodgers

No doubt about it, losing Zack Greinke is a major loss for the Los Angeles Dodgers. In 2015, Greinke was by far and away the best pitcher for the team. With a 19-3 record and a 1.66 ERA, Greinke put together one of the all-time great seasons for a pitcher.

Now that he’s gone, the Dodgers are going to have to find someone who can come close to matching that production, which is not going to be easy at all. The likely target would be Johnny Cueto, but even he didn’t have near the season that Greinke did in 2015.

Even worse for the Dodgers is that they lost Greinke to a divisional rival. The Arizona Diamondbacks are a team that took a big step forward in 2015, and have a perennial MVP candidate in Paul Goldschmidt, and a rising star in A.J. Pollock.

With a great offense and a brand new ace, the Diamondbacks are suddenly looking like rival contenders to the Dodgers.

It’s never a good thing to lose a star player in free agency, but to lose him to a division rival like the Dodgers just did is even worse. They have the money to rebound and can maybe even go out and try to acquire Jose Fernandez. Still, things just got a lot tougher for them.
