Florida vs. Alabama, 29-15: Full highlights, final score and more
Alabama continued their domination with a win over Florida in the SEC Championship game
The Florida Gators had to have a huge upset in mind early in the second quarter of the SEC Championship game against the Alabama Crimson Tide. After getting a punt blocked for a safety in the first quarter, their defense had held the Alabama offense to zero points. That’s when Antonio Callaway broke loose near the start of the second quarter for an 85-yard punt return that he took to the house, leaving the Gators with a 7-2 lead. Even when the Gators allowed an Alabama field goal and Derrick Henry rushing touchdown to go into halftime down 12-7, they still had to have hope.
However, Alabama quickly put an end to any hope in the second half. Not only were they able to score 10 unanswered points in the third quarter, but their defense remained completely dominant in making the Florida offense look inept. A’Shawn Robinson, Reggie Ragland, and company were in the face of Treon Harris virtually every time that Harris tried to drop back and throw in addition to squashing every rushing play that the Gators attempted to run.
Even worse for the Gators, Derrick Henry actually got his mojo kicked into high-gear in the second half, running all over a defense that had been so good in the first half. What once looked promising for Florida turned into somewhat of a blowout for the Tide as they captured the SEC Championship and all but secured a spot in the College Football Playoff.
Three stars
Derrick Henry continued to look like the frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy, even on the big stage. He carried the ball 44 times for 189 yards and a score on the day; just another ho-hum day at the office for the Alabama running back.
Antonio Callaway was the lone spark for the Gators in this game, including an 85-yard punt return for a touchdown that put Florida ahead early on in the conference title game. He only had one catch for 46 yards, but that still makes him the biggest weapon for Florida on Saturday.
The Alabama front seven led by A’Shawn Robinson was a terror all day for the Gators offense. Florida could barely get past the line of scrimmage in their rushing game and Treon Harris was getting mauled on virtually every passing play. The entire unit for the Tide deserves a star.
Highlights
"That Florida Gators defense tho."
Odds
The Crimson Tide were 18-point favorites in this game, which they failed to cover despite the dominant win. The two teams combined to hit just under the 39.5-point O/U line.
