The Columbus Crew’s leading goalscorer, Kei Kamara, suffered a right leg knock during training on Saturday, and could miss Sunday’s MLS Cup.

On the eve of possibly the biggest night of the club’s history. Columbus Crew fans are sweating on the availability of the team’s leading goalscorer, Kei Kamara. The man who found the back of the net 22 times during the regular season, and another three times in the playoffs, could be out for Sunday’s MLS Cup.

According to the latest Crew update, the striker picked up a knock to the right leg on Saturday, during the team’s final training session ahead of the championship game. While there is still hope that Kamara will be able to play on Sunday, his status seems to be up in the air at this point.

Following the team’s practice, Crew head coach, Gregg Berhalter, spoke to members of the media, to address Kamara’s injury and answer any questions to the best of his knowledge. The 42-year-old suggested that his leading goalscorer would be in the lineup for Sunday’s pivotal contest, but made it clear he didn’t have much information at the time.

"“I haven’t had a chance to assess it yet,” Berhalter said. “So I’m going to go in the locker room and figure out what happened and figure out what the treatment is and if he is going to be available. My guess right now is that he’d be available.”"

Columbus booked their spot in the final, after beating the Supporters’ Shield Champions, New York Red Bulls, 2-1 on aggregate. However, they lost to their opponents on Sunday, the Portland Timbers, in the only game they played against them in 2015, making the uncertainty around Kamara’s injury even more concerning.

The MLS Cup kicks off on Sunday at 4 p.m. ET from Mapfre Stadium in Columbus. The game will be shown live across the United States on ESPN and Unimas (Spanish).
