Denver Broncos vs San Diego Chargers

Sitting at 9-2 and in first place in the AFC West after a big-time upset over the undefeated New England Patriots on a snowy, blustery day in Denver last week has to give Brock Osweiler some confidence moving forward. Peyton Manning’s injury replacement fared well against the Patriots and is giving Broncos fans some hope for the future.

On the other hand, the 3-8 San Diego Chargers are currently in last place in the AFC West and are hoping this injury-riddled season will soon come to a close. After a decent start to the year, this team has lost six out of seven games and is just looking for a stoppage to the bleeding. A win over a divisional rival that’s in first place could help.

Keys to Victory

Denver Broncos

Peyton Manning will obviously be out once again in this one and Osweiler will be looked at to carry the load offensively. He rose to the occasion a week ago, but he needs to prove that wasn’t just a flash in the pan and his chemistry with top wide out Demaryius Thomas absolutely needs to be there.

Denver’s defense will probably do a solid job of keeping the Chargers’ wide outs in check, but for the Broncos to really succeed, it’s going to be on Brock and Demaryius. Completing just 1-of-13 targets to the No. 1 wide out is inexcusable, and that can’t happen this week.

San Diego Chargers

It’s always good to get pressure on a young, inexperienced quarterback and that’s exactly what the Chargers have to hope to do. Blitzing and just making Osweiler feel uncomfortable in the pocket is a must.

Getting the run game going will also be key against a tough defense that will likely have no problem slowing down the pass game. Melvin Gordon has had a very average rookie season thus far and is looking for his first touchdown. Getting him in the end zone a couple of times would be helpful.

Betting Odds

Point Spread: Denver -3.5
Moneyline: Denver -205, San Diego +175
O/U: 43

Prediction

Brock Osweiler will show once again that he’s not just a fill-in for a Hall-of-Fame QB. The young gunslinger will get on track with his top targets and throw for over 300 yards and three scores. The run game will prove to be inconsistent for both teams yet again and it will take some late-fourth quarter scoring by Philip Rivers for the Chargers to even reach 21 points.

Final Score: Broncos 31, Chargers 21
