The Dallas Mavericks are coming off a tough loss to a struggling in-state foe in the Houston Rockets and that has led to five defeats in seven contests. After a 9-3 solid start to the year, Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavs are coming back down to earth and it could have something to do with Wesley Matthews’ major struggles and the fact that Chandler Parsons isn’t 100 percent.

Matthews said after the loss to the Rockets that he “sucks” right now and that’s evidenced by his 34 percent shooting from the field. The Mavericks will need more production from the shooting guard position and he will need to snap out of his funk soon for Dallas to take the next step. Just like the Mavericks, the Wizards have lost five of seven games and have begun the year with a surprisingly mediocre 8-9 record. With the Eastern Conference faring better than the West this season, the Wizards are currently in 12th place.

With so much solid youth on this team, it will be hard to see them continue these struggles as Bradley Beal has really come on this year as the team’s leading scorer. If Beal and John Wall can be on their game for the rest of the season, the Wizards will be a hard team to beat.
