Marcus Mariota showed on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars why he was the Tennessee Titans’ top draft pick this past year, and why he was rated so highly on every big board across the National Football League.

Mariota turned in a banner performance, beating the Jags with both his arms and his legs. Through the air, Mariota racked up 268 yards, three touchdowns and only one pick – and was a sterling 20-for-29. On the ground he was notched 112 yards and a touchdown on only nine rushes. That’s 380 yards of total offense and four touchdowns for those counting at home.

Even more promising for the Titans is that the chemistry between Mariota and Dorial Green-Beckham, the team’s second round pick from this past year, appears to be blossoming. DGB pulled in five receptions on six targets, good for 119 yards and a touchdown. If they continue rolling along, Tennessee will have a great young tandem on its hand.

Looking forward, Tennessee’s schedule is a bit of a grab bag. The Patriots contest will probably be a loss, but other than that the Jets, Texans and Colts are a bundle of “who knows.” This is the time of the year where the Titans start playing for next year and forming continuity for the future.
.
