Philip Rivers throws awful pick-six to Danny Trevathan (Video)
Philip Rivers made an ill-advised throw that resulted in a pick-six for Danny Trevathan
Philip Rivers had really come to life for the San Diego Chargers in recent weeks, looking like one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL as he’s often expected to me. That came crashing to a halt late in the first quarter in the Chargers’ Week 13 matchup against the Denver Broncos.
After the Broncos had already jumped out to a 7-0 lead on the first drive of the game, Rivers and San Diego were trying to get a drive started to even things up. The vaunted Denver pass-rush wasn’t having any of that, though, as they pressured Rivers as he dropped back to throw. Rather than going down for a sack, Rivers elected to throw a terrible pass into the middle of the field that was easily grabbed by Danny Trevathan and taken back 25 yards to the house for six points:
If you’re Rivers, you can’t try to make that throw. There’s nothing good that’s going to come from that and a guy who is as talented and experienced as the Chargers quarterback is should know that.
For all of the good that Rivers has done this season, though, this was his fifth pick-six of the season, which is obviously not ideal. Even more staggering is that he’s only thrown nine interceptions in total on the year, meaning that every other one he throws is taken back for a touchdown. Sometimes your bad decisions wind up being really costly when you’re an NFL quarterback.
