Jerry Colangelo wants to bring veterans to the Philadelphia 76ers

Jerry Colangelo is already working on bringing a change to the Philadelphia 76ers.

After Jerry Colangelo was hired on to be an executive for the Philadelphia 76ers earlier on Monday, he is already fast at work trying to make the competitive 76ers into a competitive team that can beat.

The 76ers are a team with talented young players and plenty of draft picks to add more young talent, but they are a franchise that is currently lacking veteran influence and as a result, the young players on the team are suffering from not having that voice in the locker room that they can lean on.

Well that seems to be the area of focus that Colangelo is focusing on right away, as he attempts to right the ship. When Colangelo was introduced, he talked about bringing in veteran players to help the roster.

While this seems like the complete opposite of general manager Sam Hinkie’s plan for the 76ers. There was an interesting piece of information from SI’s Chris Mannix earlier, who called the hiring of Colangelo, essentially a demotion for Hinkie.

Even more interesting, is the fact that the 76ers could reportedly bring in Jerry’s son and former league executive and general manager, Bryan Colangelo, into the fold in Philadelphia.

Could this be the end of Hinkie’s process in Philadelphia? While he’s certainly done a good job attracting assets and young talent, the team hasn’t shown any signs of development, nor have they gotten better for it.

He might still be the general manager, but with Colangelo on board, he’s going to be the loudest voice in the room when it comes to making the big decisions regarding 76ers basketball. It appears that first big decision is bringing in veterans to help the roster compete and to lend a voice to the young talent.

That right there is a complete 180-degree turn from Hinkie.
