Johnny Manziel likely to start against the 49ers
It is expected that Johnny Manziel be named starting quarterback today.
And so the quarterback controversy rolls on. The Cleveland Browns are not a stable franchise, and their quarterback position mirrors that diagnosis. Johnny Manziel was chosen in the first round of the 2014 draft to be the face of the franchise, but unfortunately for the Browns it has not quite panned out as anticipated.
Manziel has had many issues during his time in the NFL. From on field doubts to his ability to pass from within the pocket, to scrutiny over his physical stature. Unfortunately, whatever on field issues people see in Johnny Football, none compare to his off-field struggles.
Known as a reckless partygoer, Manziel has more than lived up to his reputation. He caused so many issues in his rookie season that in the off season that he found himself in rehab. The biggest indictement on the Cleveland quarterback has been his commitment and work ethic, and the Browns are certainly not convinced that he is their future under center.
However, it appears as though the team is willing to let Manziel’s future play out on the field. Per Ian Rapoport, Manziel is expected to be named the starter ahead of Austin Davis who in turn replaced the injured Josh McCown, who is out for the year with a broken collarbone.
However, many who are still in support of Manziel point to his lack of opportunity. Well, he has yet another one on his hands, as it looks like we will get to see him on the field. Whether he’s successful is a completely different proposition.
