LeBron James signs deal for life with Nike
LeBron James has signed a lifetime deal with Nike, making it the largest deal in the company’s history.
LeBron James was already a very rich man. He now has reportedly just become an even richer man, as he has signed the richest deal in the history of Nike, according to ESPN’s Darren Rovell. The Cleveland Cavaliers forward had already had a longstanding relationship with Nike, but the lifetime deal guarantees that he will represent the Nike brand forever.
While Nike wouldn’t confirm the numbers of the deal, they did confirm that deal is a lifetime deal between them and James.
"“We can confirm that we have agreed to a lifetime relationship with LeBron that provides significant value to our business, brand and shareholders,” Nike said in a statement. “We have already built a strong LeBron business over the past 12 years, and we see the potential for this to continue to grow throughout his playing career and beyond.”"
While it doesn’t come as a surprising move between the two sides, everyone wants to know what the numbers are that James will be making by signing a lifetime deal with the company. According to Rovell, a source close to ESPN suggests that it surpasses the massive deal that Kevin Durant signed last year.
"A source close to the deal told ESPN that it easily surpasses the 10-year, $300 million deal Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant signed with the world’s largest shoe and apparel brand last summer."
If Durant got $300 million for 10 years, what in the world does James get for a lifetime? Whatever he received is certainly going to be eye-opening and jaw-dropping when the numbers do finally come out.
James has been a great ambassador for the sport of basketball and his brand is something that everyone wants to be a part of. By giving him a lifetime deal, Nike has guaranteed that they will be tied to one of the strongest brands for life with James.
