According to reports, the Seattle Mariners are targeting starting pitching from the Boston Red Sox.

New Seattle Mariners Jerry DiPoto is continuing to do work at transforming the roster. After a bevy of disappointing draft picks and players on big contracts not living up to the money that they were paid, DiPoto is doing his best to make moves that will make the Mariners competitive in the present and in the future for a very long time.

While the Mariners have made a ton of moves already and have been one of the most active teams on the market, they don’t appear to be stopping any time soon. The Mariners still need more starting pitching for the rotation, and it looks like that they could have some specific targets in mind.

With the winter meetings underway, the hot stove is red hot and the Mariners are at the forefront of every discussion. According to Ken Rosenthal, the Mariners are targeting a couple of pitchers from the Boston Red Sox. Rosenthal tweets out that the Mariners are looking at Clay Buchholz and Wade Miley.

Right off the bat, both of those pitchers would make sense for the Mariners. Buchholz is a solid arm that can potentially pay off big dividends for Seattle if they were to acquire him. His numbers might fare a bit better in the spacious Safeco Field as opposed to Fenway Park.

Wade Miley is another name that makes sense for the Mariners, as Miley and DiPoto go way back to their days with the Arizona Diamondbacks Organization. Miley is another arm that could potentially rebound in Seattle. He’s a former All-Star that has shown that he has the stuff to be a solid arm in this league.

The last couple of years, Miley has had trouble keeping his ERA and walks down, but if he’s in an environment that isn’t necessarily a hitters park like Chase Field or Fenway Park, then he might have what it takes to regain some of his All-Star form with the Mariners. More importantly, he’s a guy that can get them innings.

The Seattle Mariners are dead set on changing their roster and making the team competitive. Swinging a deal with Boston might just be able to help them.
