MLB Rumors: Mets met with Bartolo Colon’s agents
According to reports, the New York Mets have met with the agents of Bartolo Colon.
The New York Mets are now the top dog in the National League, as the reigning National League Champions and the team will have to have a smart and effective free agency, if they want to continue to build on the success that they had in 2015, where they eventually fell in the World Series to the Kansas City Royals.
While the talented amount of young pitching for the Mets has them set up to compete for a long time to come, the team will need to keep their talent and veteran players, while maybe adding another bat or two, if they’re going to get over that hump and win the World Series.
While they are in on many of those bats, the team is also being diligent in their process to keep some veterans on the roster. One of those rosters that the Mets could look to keep, is the ever durable Bartolo Colon. At 42-years-old, Colon is still a serviceable arm in this league. According to Ken Rosenthal, the Mets met with the agents of Colon.
While the Mets level of interest isn’t known at the time, bringing Colon back wouldn’t be a bad option, given that they have to be careful to keep their young talented arms fresh and Colon can eat innings whenever they need a start or out of the bullpen.
Colon’s ERA was a little over four the past couple of years, and while he hasn’t been the best, he is that aforementioned innings eater. Young arms come at a premium, and the Mets have had to deal with their fair share of players needing Tommy John surgery.
It’s always good to have an emergency veteran arm like Colon just in case. Now whether or not they’re interested in bringing him back, remains to be seen.
