MLB Trade Rumors: Rangers not shopping Prince Fielder
By Josh Hill
The Texas Rangers are not shopping Prince Fielder at the Winter Meetings.
Each year at the MLB Winter Meetings, we hear trade rumors kicked around like crazy and insane deals get pulled off as though they weren’t that complicated at all. Big names are moved to new teams as the craziest week outside of the trade deadline week happens during the Winter Meetings.
Needless to say, the Rangers and Prince Fielder have come up numerous times in trade rumors, as Texas tries to decide what they need to make another World Series run in 2016. They fell short against the Blue Jays in the ALDS, and some have suggested that moving Fielder and his contract might be what needs to happen.
Despite reports that may have suggested that Fielder was on the market, the Rangers haven’t yet had any conversations with teams regarding a trade for their first baseman.
If the Rangers did move Fielder, it would come as a bit of a surprise to those who watched him invigorate Texas late in the year. Fielder’s massive contract is a problem though, and it’s one of the reasons the Tigers bailed on him and shipped him to Texas in the first place. This is the time of the year though where these weird deals are made — again, see Fielder being traded from Detroit to Texas — and it’s not crazy to think that someone might kick the tires to see what it would take to get the slugger on their team.
