15. Chicago Bears

Before stumbling to the San Francisco 49ers, the Chicago Bears had shown some signs of life. They were on a bit of a heater and living on the fringes of a potential playoff berth. As for the future, well, there are plenty of holes to plug. The first of which comes on defense off the edge.

John Fox stares at the big board in front of him, spies the athletic freak known formally as Shawn Oakman and immediately sends in his card. Oakman will give the Bears a stand-up threat off the edge to frighten the NFC’s oft-potent trio of quarterbacks (assuming that Teddy Bridgewater keeps progressing up in Minnesota and Matt Stafford stays in Detroit).

This is a team on the verge of having a banner defense, and is a few key positions from being really solid. There were temptations to go with a player in the secondary here, but Oakman is so physically imposing that Fox sticks with the 3-4 defensive end.

You can bet that before pulling the trigger on this pick, Fox looks around his staff, stares deep into their souls and lets out a guttural cry that “NEVER AGAIN WILL BLAINE GABBERT BEAT THIS FOOTBALL TEAM.”
