NFL Mock Draft 2016: Week 14 edition
By Staff
5. Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars have been putting something special together now for sometime. Blake Bortles appears to be the real deal. Allen Robinson is a touchdown factory. And TJ Yeldon has shown flashes that he can be a solid back in the league – if at least part of a durable stable. What the team needs, however is a left tackle to help the whole show congeal.
Jacksonville has allowed the fifth-most sacks in the NFL this season, and if they’re to keep Bortles alive, er, progressing, then there must be some kind of protection for the blind side.
Taylor Decker is no stranger to the big time. At Ohio State he’s had a target painted on his chest, and has been tasked with protecting the likes of Braxton Miller, J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones. Decker’s stock has dropped a little bit of late, but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s a freaking monster. Locking down at 6’7 315-pound mammoth is one helluva protective blanket.
The Jaguars will lock down a guard later in the draft, but not before the tackle position is squared away. Late draft skill positions will also be a focus. If the Jags can snare a blocking tight end with good hands later in the draft, then Blake Bortles will have time for days – not to mention fewer night terrors about J.J. Watt.
