Detroit Tigers acquire reliever Justin Wilson from New York Yankees

The Detroit Tigers bolstered their bullpen by adding left-handed reliever Justin Wilson from the New York Yankees.

New Detroit Tigers general manager Al Avila has been very serious about rebuilding the Tigers right back into contenders in the American League Central. The team needs pitching to go with their offense, and the Tigers have been doing just that thus far.

At the beginning of free agency the team added Jordan Zimmerman, as they looked to bolster the front end of their rotation. Then to bolster the back end of rotation, the team added Mike Pelfrey on a two-year deal. Now the team is going after bullpen help, as they add to their pitching stash that they are building thus far into the Winter Meetings.

According to Jennifer Hammond, the Tigers will acquire left-handed reliever Justin Wilson from the New York Yankees in exchange for two pitching prospects.

For the Tigers, it’s another arm as they continue to transform their pitching staff, and the move gives them a reliable left-handed arm that was pretty good for New York in 2015, as he finished the season with a 3.10 ERA.

For the Yankees, it’s an interesting move as they acquire prospects in the deal. It saves them salary and perhaps allows them to go after someone else in free agency or through trade.

The Tigers are making moves under the radar thus far, and it could pay off very well for them next season.
