The Seattle Mariners acquired Adam Lind from the Milwaukee Brewers

The wheeling and dealing is continuing at a feverish pitch down in Nashville, Tenn. at the MLB Winter meetings.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Seattle Mariners and Milwaukee Brewers have come together on a trade where Milwaukee’s first baseman, Adam Lind, would be heading to the west coast to play at Safeco Field and prospects would be heading the other direction to the Brewers organization.

Lind, 31, spent parts of nine seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays as their one time left fielder and then moving to become their first baseman and designated hitter. He played in 953 games, hitting 146 home runs and driving in 519 during his time in Canada.

Last winter, former Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos shipped Lind to the Brewers for right-handed pitcher Marco Estrada. Lind hit 20 home runs and cashed in 87 RBI in his only season wearing Brewers colors.

Lind probably slides into a platoon designated-hitter role with Nelson Cruz. This move also allows flexibility for the Mariners to play him at first base. Right now, the plan looks like Jesus Montero is slated to be the first baseman pending anything else that may arise in the offseason.

A year ago, the Mariners finished with a record of 76-86 and 12 games behind the division-winning Texas Rangers. The Mariners appear to want to make big splashes in the offseason and, while Lind is not a potent bat, he does provide further leadership to the team.

Milwaukee gains a couple of prospects in return and it allows Jonathan Lucroy to be their first baseman when Spring Training commences. Lucroy hit seven home runs and drove in 43, finishing last year with a .264 batting average.
