RTOE: NBA quarter-season awards: Part II
By Ian Levy
We recently surprised the quarter mark of the 2015-16 NBA season, so we took a few minutes to reflect on what’s happened so far and hand out some awards. Here we have Part II of our NBA quarter-season awards roundtable.
Best dunk?
Jack (@jackhaveitall): Okay, so DeMar DeRozan yamming on Rudy Gobert is best dunk in a vacuum. But Kevin Garnett’s jam on Blake Griffin is the dunk of the season so far. Between Blake getting a taste of his own medicine from KG in 2015, and Karl-Anthony Towns’ reaction, it’s going to be tough for any dunk to top this one.
Ryne (@ryneprinz): Sure, it’s not the most acrobatic or ferocious of dunks, but Kevin Garnett posterized Blake Griffin … in 2015. Long live KG.
Taylor (@TaylorBojangles): DeMar DeRozan ending Rudy Gobert. DDR doesn’t need your stinkin’ gravity.
Best pass?
Jack: I’m a big fan of this wraparound bounce pass from Steph. Sometimes you just have to stunt.
Ryne: We’ve long celebrated LeBron’s versatility on the basketball court, which includes his ability to distribute the rock. King James did it yet again with this half court, over the head, bounce pass.
Taylor: More LeBron. I’m convinced there’s one player on earth that can make this play. and it’s LeBron. He takes the pass from Kevin Love with his left hand and flips it all the way across the court, all in one motion. Richard Jefferson obliges by draining the subsequent triple. It’s mesmerizing.
Best non-gameplay moment?
Jack: Tyler Hansbrough’s reaction to Boban Marjanovic checking into the game. Psycho T was incredibly shook.
Ryne: Solomon Hill celebrated a Paul George three by unsheathing a air-sword. Need I say more?
Taylor: Andre Drummond watching over Reggie Jackson’s postgame interview last week. Staring straight into your soul.
Best game-winner?
Jack: It has to be Jeff Green’s dunk. A game-winning alley-oop off an out of bounds play with less than a second left? Yep, sounds pretty good to me.
Ryne: Unfortunately this was against the Bulls, but I’m going with Mirza’s fall away shot. It’s symbolic of how funky the NBA can be sometimes.
Taylor: Uncle Jeff Green’s game-winning alley-oop takes the cake for me. Bonus points for Vince Carter slapping the hell out of Courtney Lee in celebration afterward.
Worst Kobe sequence?
Jack:
Ryne: Sigh.
