MLB Rumors: Angels emerge as suitor for Jason Heyward

In what some might call a stunning move, Jason Heyward has a new serious suitor in the Angels.

Free agent slugger Jason Heyward is currently one of the hottest commodities on the market, and throughout the course of the past few days, it seems as if the rival Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals would be in a monster bidding war for his services. Everyone was looking forward to the two National League rivals battle it out for one of the best hitters in the game, but as we’ve seen time and time again in baseball negotiations, a surprise team can come out of nowhere at any point.

Well, hello there, Los Angeles Angels.

Yes, according to a Jon Morosi report, the Angels have decided they would like in on this battle for Heyward now, making things all the more interesting going forward with this chase here.

It was reported earlier in the day on Thursday that a Heyward decision would be coming by the weekend, but with the Angels in the mix now, there’s no telling how much those reported plans will change.

Of all the teams that could have jumped in here, the Angels are quite the intriguing addition. Adding the bat of Heyward into a lineup that already possesses Albert Pujols and maybe the best young slugger in the game in Mike Trout really opens your eyes to the possibility of the Angels potentially making a run in the AL West next season. They were deadly at times last season, especially with Pujols finding the fountain of youth all of a sudden, and putting Heyward in the mix here could mean a lot this coming season.

And the scariest part, for the Cardinals and Cubs, of the Angels jumping in here? They have the dollars to compete.
