Over the course of the past few seasons, one of the more recognizable and popular tight ends in all of the NFL was Julius Thomas. Paired with Peyton Manning on the Denver Broncos, Thomas was really making a name for himself in this league, and this past off-season he became the highest-paid at his position in the NFL, signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Well, things have not gone as swimmingly with the Jaguars as everyone thought they would in his first year with the team, and because of that, the popularity that he built with Manning and the Broncos is taking a hit.

According to the DICK’S Sporting Goods Jersey Report, which reflects sales both nationwide and online, while Thomas began the year at the No. 6 spot in regards to NFL tight end jersey sales, here in the month of December, he has now completely fallen out of the Top 10.

While Thomas was indeed one of the more notable names in the NFL the past few seasons, when you look at how this first year with the Jaguars has gone, it’s not really all that surprising that he’s taken such a fall. After missing the first few games of the year and finally joining the team in Week 5, Thomas has not been nearly as effective as he was with the Broncos. He has just one 100-yard game on the year and has caught only four touchdowns.

For comparison, in each of the last two seasons with the Broncos he brought in 12 touchdowns, and in 2013 in helping lead the Broncos to the Super Bowl, he tallied  788 yards while averaging 12.1 yards per reception.

With the Jaguars still struggling to put some pieces together on this team, it could be a while before we see Thomas crack the Top 10 in tight end jersey sales again.
