NBA Rumors: Brett Brown agrees to two-year extension with 76ers

Brett Brown agrees to a two-year contract extension with the Philadelphia 76ers to stay on as head coach.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Philadelphia 76ers have agreed in principle to a two-year contract extension with their head coach, Brett Brown. Brown has been the head coach of the 76ers since they’ve undergone their experimental ‘hyper-tanking’ rebuild in 2013-14.
Since Brown stems from the Gregg Popovich coaching tree in San Antonio, he is well-received by his colleagues and does a great job coaching a depleted 76ers roster. However, Brown’s 76ers have won one game in 2015-16 and the league is growing tired of the team’s perpetual losing; he has more years on his contract extension than his team has wins on the year!
A possible reason behind this mid-season extension for Brown is that the 76ers organization have brought in longtime NBA executive Jerry Colangelo to help the team in their rebuilding efforts.
While Colangelo will likely act in an advisory role in addition to speaking with the media, something general manager Sam Hinkie has totally been reluctant to play a part in, this move to keep Brown for the long-term seems like an act of good faith for an organization that gives off the impressing of trying to lose on purpose.
If this rebuild does pan out for the 76ers and they do acquire the league’s next superstar, then it seems like Brown will have the opportunity to coach said superstar, if he arrives in Philadelphia in the next two years.
NBA fans and colleagues of his seem to sympathize with Brown’s situation in Philadelphia. However if he were coaching a team not-so obviously in rebuilding mode, then he would not have the job security he does now. He would actually have to coach to win, not to teach winning principles like playing hard and working together as a unit defensively.
