Boston Celtics vs Charlotte Hornets
Just a half-game separated the Boston Celtics and the Charlotte Hornets in the Eastern Conference standings even though the latter is the No. 2 team in the East and the former is the No. 7 team. With so much competition and so little separation between these teams, the Celtics and Hornets have become two of the best teams in the league and a win for either could change the look in the East.
Surely some teams are going to pull away from the pack, but for now, it’s time for the contenders to really show themselves. Charlotte is beginning to look like a threat while being one of the hottest teams in basketball, winning 8-of-10 games. The addition of Nicolas Batum over the offseason is paying off while Kemba Walker is playing some of his best basketball.
Third-year head coach Brad Stevens has brought the Celtics out of the NBA’s cellar and into relevance as he has improved Boston each year since taking the head coaching job in 2013. Sitting at 13-9, the Celtics are on pace to have their first winning season in three years.
Isaiah Thomas has been great for Boston all year, leading the team with 21.0 points and 6.3 rebounds per game, really providing that scoring guard who the Celtics had been searching for. Jared Sullinger has been playing well in the post as well, averaging nearly a double-double.
