AFC Wild Card Standings: Week 14

The AFC Playoffs are right around the corner, but who is in the Wild Card hunt?

The Kansas Chiefs haven’t won a playoff game in two decades, but that could very well change if things continue to hum along like they have been. Kansas City won on Sunday, meaning they’re staying in the driver’s seat for the top Wild Card spot in the conference for another week.

New York helped themselves by beating the Titans, holding Pittsburgh at bay for at least one more week — something we all anticipate will change in the last three weeks of the season.

Here’s what the current Wild Card picture looks like on the AFC side of things:

WC1. Chiefs (8-5)
WC2. Jets (8-5)

Teams just on the outside of the bubble are:

Steelers (8-5)
Texans (6-7)
Bills (6-7)
Raiders (6-7)
Jaguars (5-8)

If the playoffs were to start today, here would be our matchups on Wild Card weekend:

Bengals vs. Jets
Colts vs. Chiefs

Not a whole lot has changed here, but the Steelers are salivating on the outside of the bubble, waiting for the Jets or Chiefs to clip up and replace them in the Wild Card picture. All it takes is one slip up and the Steelers to win out for Pittsburgh to make their way into the playoffs — so we are far from having a set field.

Beyond that, the Raiders are only barely alive with another win by the Chiefs, Steelers and Jets damning them even more so than they already are. Jacksonville is technically alive as their best chance to make the postseason is to win the abysmal AFC South — which at this point is very possible. With just two games left in the season, the Jaguars are a game behind the Colts and Texans and a win next week will propel them to second place.
