Chiefs receiver Albert Wilson catches a 44-yard touchdown.

The Kansas City Chiefs have turned their season around after a rough start to their 2015 campaign. They have moved to 7-5 on the season and getting there has required help from unexpected players all season.

It happened again Sunday as second-year receiver Albert Wilson scored the first touchdown of the day against the San Diego Chargers, putting the Chiefs on top 7-0. Wilson hauled in a short slant pass from quarterback Alex Smith, then broke a tackle and sprinted the rest of the way for a 44-yard score, the second of his young career.

Wilson may have taken advantage of the sloppy field as his defender didn’t seem to have the best footing on the play. The catch capped off a drive which covered 96 yards on nine plays in 5:23. Wilson is a little-known player, unless you happen to follow the Georgia State Panthers.

The Panthers grad was the first ever Georgia State player invited to the NFL combine after racking up 6,235 all-purpose yards and 26 touchdowns.

After a 16 reception, 260 yard season as a rookie for the Chiefs, Wilson has played a bigger role so far in 2015. Entering the contest Sunday, the 5-foot-9 Wilson had 21 catches for 279 yards and a score thus far in the campaign.

The Chiefs are in a tight race for one of the two wild card spots in the AFC and need a win against division rival San Diego to help ensure they are able to make a postseason appearance.
