Alex Smith accuses Chargers of ‘head hunting’

Alex Smith accused the Chargers of headhunting in their game on Sunday.

The Kansas City Chiefs are on a very un-Chiefs-like wining streak at the moment and seem to have played their way into the postseason. The division title is still alive at this point, but at the very least the Chiefs appear to be Wild Card bound. That’s not stopping quarterback Alex Smith from getting fired up.

After Sunday’s game — which the Chiefs won 10-6 — Smith went off and accused San Diego of headhunting.

If you watched the game, you sort of knew that this was the case. There were more than a few plays where Smith was either hit late or too high — not every time ending in a penalty. Smith was hit in the back of the head on a quarterback sneak in which he gave himself up well before taking a hit, and later was shoved to the ground well after being out of bounds.

Smith isn’t usually vocal like this, so when he speaks up it’s something to take note of.

Frankly, the officiating overall in this game was absolutely atrocious. There were obvious missed calls and head-scratchers that went against both teams. The NFL should take a hard look at this officiating crew.

In the end, however, it was a tale of two teams. The Chiefs are trending upward, locking up their seventh-straight win, while the Chargers are heading toward a top draft pick.
