Ted Ginn II blows right past the Atlanta Falcons‘ secondary for a 74-yard touchdown reception to give the Carolina Panthers at 13-0 lead over Atlanta.

The Carolina Panthers are scoring early and often versus their division rival in the Atlanta Falcons. Wide receiver Ted Ginn II exploded for a 74-yard touchdown reception to give the Panthers a two-score lead early in Sunday’s rivalry game in Charlotte.

Carolina first got on the board Sunday afternoon on a one-yard leaping touchdown from running back Jonathan Stewart. However, it was Ginn’s breakaway speed on a vertical passing route that gave the Panthers a convincing 14-point lead early.

Falcons defensive back Robert Alford had a pass interference call on Ginn and gave up on the play as the Panthers wideout took it to the house effortlessly. Only free safety Ricardo Allen even made an attempt to chase Ginn.

Then on the Panthers’ next drive quarterback Cam Newton connected on another deep touchdown pass with Ginn, again eviscerating the Falcons’ secondary, this one of the 46-yard variety.

Newton recognized bad coverage on the other side of the Falcons’ defense. He found Ginn wide open as Allen and linebacker Philip Wheeler had to drop back into coverage. Newton chased into the end zone and promptly hit the dab, as the Panthers took a 21-0 lead over Atlanta with seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Carolina is asserting itself on its biggest rival and could lock up home field advantage in the NFC in a matter of weeks. The Panthers look unstoppable and the Falcons’ secondary have no answer for the Newton to Ginn passing combination.
