Kyle Allen may look to transfer to the University of Houston and play for head coach Tom Herman.

Former five-star quarterback recruit out of Scottsdale, Arizona Kyle Allen is leaving the Texas A&M Aggies football program and will have to sit out 2016 following a transfer. After starting parts of two seasons at Texas A&M, Allen reportedly met with University of Houston head coach Tom Herman about the possibility to being a two-year starter with the Cougars in 2017-18.

A source close the situation told SportsRadio 610 in Houston that Allen met with Herman to discuss a transfer to Houston in an undisclosed part of the big city. While Allen will have to sit out in 2016 per NCAA transfer rules, next season would be the last for current Houston starter Greg Ward, Jr, leaving Allen with two years to start under center for the Cougars.

Herman, who is in his first year as a head coach in Houston, was the former offensive coordinator of the inaugural College Football Playoff Champion Ohio State Buckeyes just last season. Once this year’s coaching carousel became to turn around Thanksgiving, Herman decided to stay put in Houston rather than abruptly seek a job as a head coach in the Power 5.

Houston is a major player in the American Athletic Conference and won the Group of 5 bid to play a New Year’s Six Bowl game. The Cougars will play the Florida State Seminoles in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl on New Year’s at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.

While Herman could leave Houston if offered a Power 5 gig next season, he may want to stay put and work with Allen in 2017-18. By that time Houston may prove itself as a Group of 5 juggernaut and maybe the Big 12 will look to expand to 12 teams, possibly bring the Cougars into the Power 5.

Interestingly, Houston is the former employer of current Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin, who left for College Station when the team joined the SEC in 2012. Houston has a strong history of having great passers on their football team. Perhaps Allen joins the ranks in 2017?
