P- Scott Kazmir

Whoever doesn’t land Gallardo could turn their sights to veteran left-handed starter Scott Kazmir. Kazmir went from being out of baseball just a few seasons ago to being a coveted left-handed starter in the free agent market.

We’ve already heard reports of Kazmir speaking with his former team the Houston Astros. The Kansas City Royals could view him as a consolation rotation prize if they miss out. He could find himself in Pittsburgh or with another team he pitched for last season in the Oakland Athletics.

Kazmir got off to a great start, but if I were running a team looking to invest in a free agent, I’d be a little worried about Kazmir’s finish last season.

During September and October, Kazmir had an ERA of 6.52. Kazmir posted an ERA of just 3.10, however, he had a FIP of 3.98 and an XFIP of 4.14, suggesting that he may have been a bit lucky last season.

Kazmir’s velocity held steady at 91 MPH which is promising. Kazmir can fit right back in to the Astros rotation into the number two or three spot.

A three year deal would be ideal for a club, but it could be whatever team gives him that fourth year in the deal could be the one to seal the deal.
