The New England Patriots have lost running back LaGarrette Blount for the season with a hip injury.

The New England Patriots are atop the AFC once again and look like a team primed to repeat as Super Bowl Champions. The problem for the Patriots is that they are going to have a tough time getting there, as they keep losing players to injuries.

With a running backs core already depleted, the Patriots couldn’t afford to lose anyone else. According to Mike Petraglia, they will reportedly be without running back LaGarrette Blount for the rest of the season.

For the Patriots, that’s yet another player on offense that they will have to move on without. Without a running game, things are going to be much difficult for Tom Brady, as defenders are going to pin their ears back and rush at him all game with no threat of a running game.

The Patriots are going to have to find a way to establish something on the ground before the playoffs begin, because that is when the weather turns and football teams that contend for Super Bowls pound the football to set up the pass.

Brady is a quarterback on a different level, and the Patriots might be able to overcome not having a running game, but it’s going to make things much more difficult. Early on in the season, it looked like the Patriots were just going to roll right through everyone.

Then injuries to several key personnel occurred, and the Patriots were grasping at straws to fill holes on both sides of the ball. The line in front of Brady is banged up and he has nobody to hand off to.

At this point on offense, it looks like Rob Gronkowski is Brady’s only option.
