Should You Pick Up Brandon Jennings?

Brandon Jennings is coming full circle with his rehabilitation ans is looking to suit up for a D-League game this weekend. If you are looking for the kind of production from Jennings that he we giving before his injury then you are going to be pretty disappointed. Reggie Jackson is firmly entrenched is that point guard of the Pistons offense and is not likely to release those reigns anytime soon.

So the question is there for us now; should we pick up Brandon Jennings? My answer may vary slightly for you. If you are in a deep league of 16 teams or more you may want to pick him up. If you are in a ten team league then you probably will not want to pick him up. I don’t anticipate that Jennings will get much more than 20-25 minutes at max. For the first few months or so he may see even less time than that.

Most of his minutes will likely come as a backup point guard relieving Jackson. He is not a good shooter so he is highly unlikely to get any run at the shooting guard position and beyond that Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is playing very well and has no reason to lose minutes.

I would however hold out hope that possibly Detroit could strike a deal to trade the young point guard. There are a few teams who need a point guard and if he was traded to a team where he could become the starter he would find immediate value and if you play in a league that is not penalized for poor field goal percentages than he could be a great PG for you.

All in all there is really nothing to see here and no real reason to rush out and add Brandon Jennings to your roster. He is still fairly young and has a good chance to fully recover and be the player that he was, but he will need to be traded or have Reggie Jackson get injured to see the kind of minutes that it will take to be a benefit to your fantasy team.

I would also avoid using him in daily leagues despite whatever his price may be. He will not be a real attractive player in a Pistons uniform barring injury or a possible weird trade scenario. You may want to keep your eyes in the trade rumor pages and add him to a watch list, but there is no reason to add him to your fantasy basketball team unless it is a deep 16 team league and you have a guy who is not producing to cut loose.
