Finn Balor and Samoa Joe were once the best of friends, but there was nothing friendly about their meeting at NXT TakeOver: London on Wednesday for the NXT Championship. After Joe viciously turned on the champ, it was all about business and brutality in London.

Joe started out the match trying to become the aggressor and stun the champ with his quick strikes, but Finn was ready for it. He countered with a mean dropkick that sent Joe to the outside:

Balor took advantage by hitting a dive to the outside and staying on top of Joe. However, the Samoan Submission Machine could only be held down for so long. As Balor went for a stomp and a dive off the apron, Joe caught him for a wicked side slam on the floor:

This clearly gave the challenger the advantage as he rolled Finn back into the ring. He unloaded his quick, rolling punches and just unleashed his full arsenal of kicks and slams on the champ:

Balor tried to fight back, but Joe wasn’t going back down easily, remaining the man on top even through the champ’s counter attempts. The onslaught continued from the challenger, including a brutal kick in the corner:

However, Finn finally seemed to get some breathing room when he rolled out of the way of a Running Senton. However, Joe rebounded to knock Balor off the apron soon after and then hit a nasty dive to the outside on the champ:

Back in the ring, Joe lit Balor up with a Powerbomb and what looked to be a pinfall attempt. But then the challenger started wearing Finn down with a variety of submissions. However, he made a mistake breaking the hold as Balor was able to re-gain momentum with a DDT. That led to him becoming the aggressor, starting with a huge enzuigiri that sent Joe back to the floor and allowed Finn to hit a monster of a Swan dive to the outside:

Back in the ring, Balor hit a Double Foot Stomp on the back of Joe, but it wasn’t good enough for the fall:

Balor then looked to really finish it by hitting a Slingblade:

However, Joe was able to counter when Balor went for the corner dropkick and tried to set him up for the Muscle Buster off of a Senton. However, Balor slipped out and found the space for a Pele Kick:

The action continued furiously, though, as Joe got up soon after and locked in the Coquina Clutch. Somehow, though, the champ was able to get out and ultimately hit a standing Double Foot Stomp:

Balor then landed three running dropkicks into the corner, but Joe was still fighting back and, as Balor went for the Coup de Grace, Joe got up and almost got set for a top-rope Muscle Buster before Finn sent him back to the mat. That left Joe again open for the Coup de Grace, which Balor hit:

That was enough for the win and for Finn to retain the NXT Championship at NXT TakeOver: London.
