According to a report, the New York Mets and Bartolo Colon have agreed on a one-year deal.

The New York Mets will be keeping depth in their pitching rotation to go along with their tremendous young pitching.

According to a report by Ken Rosenthal, the Mets have agreed on a one-year deal with veteran pitcher Bartolo Colon, which will pay him $7.25 million for next season.

The good thing about having a guy like Colon on the staff for the Mets is that he is a reliable guy that they can turn the ball to when they need him to eat innings. With a young pitching staff that will have their innings closely monitored, a guy like Colon holds value in this league, especially considering his peripherals have been pretty solid for a back-of-the-rotation starter, and occasionally he will put together a great start.

The Mets have Zach Wheeler coming off Tommy John surgery and last season, Matt Harvey was concerned about the amount of innings he was pitching. If they’re going to last a full season and make a deep playoff run, a guy like Colon is a must. Colon loves New York and according to Rosenthal, he took a discount to stay with the Mets.

Colon wants to see the young Mets finish off what they started last season, and that is to get over the hump and win the World Series. Colon will turn 43 years old toward the beginning of next season, but the pitcher hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down as a pitcher yet.

He’s adapted his game to his age and he’s a quality veteran arm that can help any team that he is on. That’s not an easy thing to find on the free agent market.

Colon is finally off the board, and he’s staying home with the Mets.
