According to Marc Stein, the Sacramento Kings are likely to trade Caron Butler to the Milwaukee Bucks.

On December 15, the unofficial NBA trade season began, as teams could begin signing players as free agents. It looks like one of those free agents signed in the off-season, could soon be on the move.

According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Sacramento Kings are likely to trade veteran forward Caron Butler soon. He also reports that the likely destination is the Milwaukee Bucks.

Butler, a native of Wisconsin, would be going back home for the second time in his career, after the Phoenix Suns traded him to Milwaukee a couple years ago.

The Sacramento Kings are at the bottom of the Western Conference again, despite playing better when they have DeMarcus Cousins on the court, but it looks like once again the franchise is in for another long season. The other thing the Kings have going against them is future assets. They traded most of their future picks away, and could use some in return.

It’s not clear what they would get in return for Butler, but it was noted the other day that center Miles Plumlee was on the block for the Bucks. With Cousins struggling with some injury issues this season, Plumlee wouldn’t be bad insurance as another center off the bench. It could also be just a salary dump for the Kings, with contracts that can be waived coming back. In terms of future picks, the Kings wouldn’t likely get more than a future second from Milwaukee for Butler, but it is an asset.

For Milwaukee, Butler can provide veteran leadership to a young Bucks squad. He’s pretty solid from beyond the arc and adding him into the rotation wouldn’t be a bad thing.

Trade season is coming in hot, and the Sacramento Kings are ready to make a move.
