According to a report, Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina had a second thumb surgery.
After having a first thumb surgery to repair some ligaments, it appears that the first one didn’t quite do the trick, as Yadier Molina had to have a second thumb surgery.
According to Jenifer Langosch, Molina had a second thumb surgery to repair ligaments that will keep him out for most of spring training.
Yadier Molina had to have a second thumb ligament surgery yesterday. The first didn't take. That'll keep him out for most of ST. #stlcards

While Molina should be back for Opening Day, it’s going to be tough as spring training is a vital time for pitchers and catchers to get on the same page. Molina is a Gold Glove catcher and can call a great game better than anyone else, but with new pitchers potentially coming in, it’s important that he and his pitchers can get a feel for each other.
It will be also interesting to see if the thumb also has any effects on his catching ability. It could certainly and will probably affect him at the plate as he tries to get a good swing at the plate.
If the first surgery didn’t work, there has to be worries about whether or not the second surgery will too. He’s a vital member of the team that they need behind home plate every game. Molina is an absolute warrior with a lot of passion for his job. Injured thumb or not, he will try to find his way out there.
