Last week, Chris Davis reportedly had an offer of a seven-year contract worth roughly $150 million sitting on the table with the opportunity to re-sign with the Baltimore Orioles. It would have been the most lucrative deal in team history.

As with seemingly any Scott Boras client, however, a report is nothing more than speculation until a player signs on the dotted line. This became even more evident just hours later when the Orioles rescinded their offer.

Rather than break the bank for an elite power-hitter with a penchant for strikeouts, it appears that Baltimore will focus on preparing its plan for the future following a disappointing 2015 campaign.

"“There’s a lot of rumors out there, lot of interest,” Orioles general manager Dan Duquette. “But now’s the time of the year to buckle down and for people to make choices, what they’re going to do with their teams and for players to choose what teams they’re going to play for.”"

Davis ranks among the best power-hitters in baseball. In 2015, he compiled an MLB-best 47 home runs, and finished second in the American League with 117 RBIs.

This hitting prowess comes at a price, though, as Davis recorded a total of 208 strikeouts — more than any player in baseball.

Regardless, teams will be lining up to acquire to top home run threat on the free agent market. It is just a matter of who will willing to pay his hefty price tag.

The Toronto Blue Jays would be an interesting option. The addition of Davis would add to Toronto’s unfathomable amount of sluggers, which led the MLB in home runs and runs scored last season.

And despite the recent setbacks in negations, do not count the Orioles out either. They have the money to make this deal happen.
