The Peak, Weak, and Sneak of the Week!

If you are new to the article, thank you for reading! The ‘Peak, Weak, and Sneak of the Week’ column will be a weekly article about three quarterbacks that I believe could impact your DraftKings lineup in a positive or negative manner. The three categories are below:

Peak – A quarterback I like most this week, based on match-up, and their cost.

Weak – A quarterback who a lot of analysts are high on, or has a large price tag that will not be worth their cost.

Sneak – A quarterback sleeper for the week. A low-cost quarterback with boom potential.

‘Peak of the Week’ – Matthew Stafford ($6,100) – Stafford and the Lions have not been good this season, as their record currently sits at 4-9.  The Lions will not be going to the playoffs this year, but maybe Stafford can help you win some money in DraftKings or help you compete in your season long fantasy league if you were lucky enough to make the playoffs.

Stafford has thrown for 9 touchdowns while only throwing 1 interception in his past 3 games. Stafford has averaged 262 yards per game this season, and has thrown for multiple touchdowns in 8 out of the 13 games he has started in.

On Monday night, the Lions face off against the New Orleans Saints and their pitiful defense.  The Saints defense was a surprise last week, as they only allowed 1 touchdown through the air for the first time in 9 games. On average, the Saints defense allows 2.8 touchdowns from opposing quarterbacks per game.

Expect Stafford to continue this trend and throw for multiple touchdowns in the Superdome as he is my ‘Peak of the Week.’

‘Weak of the Week’ – Ben Roethlisberger ($6,400) – Roethlisberger is the first to go from ‘Peak of the Week’ to ‘Weak of the Week’ in subsequent weeks.  Roethlisberger performed below a peak performance last week and now has to face off against the Denver Broncos defense.

The Broncos defense comes into week 15 as the best in the league in terms of fantasy points given up to opposing quarterbacks at 12.07.  The Broncos have only given up 13 touchdown passes all season (1 a game), while intercepting 11 (.8 a game).

Facing off against the league’s best pass defense, I think Todd Haley and the Steelers offense will dial up more plays using Deangelo Williams on the ground.  Denver is much worse against the run than they are against the pass, giving up an average of 16.75 fantasy points per game to opposing running backs.

Don’t expect Big Ben and his high price tag to put up big numbers this week, as he comes in as my ‘Weak of the Week.’

‘Sneak of the Week’ – Alex Smith ($5,100) – Alex Smith and the Chiefs are coming off a 10-3 win against the San Diego Chargers where Smith was mediocre, at best.  Smith threw for 191 yards on 23 attempts, along with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Then again, in a soggy game in Kansas City, most of the players involved were fantasy busts last week.

Smith has also only thrown for multiple touchdowns 4 times in 13 weeks. You may be thinking, now why would I use Alex Smith in week 15?  Well readers, I have the answer; Alex Smith and the Chiefs are playing against the Baltimore Ravens.

The Ravens give up 20.23 fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks through the first 14 weeks of the season, ranking them 7th worst in the NFL.  On average, the Ravens defense allows 262 yards and 2.1 touchdowns per game, while intercepting a minuscule 0.3 passes.

I’m no word-smith, but I am going with Alex as my ‘Sneak of the Week.’
