Is Texas A&M looking to fire Kevin Sumlin?
As the program begins to fall apart around him, one report suggests Texas A&M is looking to fire head coach Kevin Sumlin.
Texas A&M has gone from a good, promising program to a program that could very well be headed for a big shift in just a couple of days. It all started with the program losing their quarterbacks Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray, both of whom transferred out from the program recently.
With recruiting potentially suffering as a result, and the Aggies losing their quarterbacks, the program could very well be on the verge of being in shambles and that squarely falls on their head coach Kevin Sumlin. With the tumultuous state of the program currently, Sumlin could very well be on the way out.
Chip Brown of Horns Digest was a guest on Sports Talk with Bo Mattingly, and stated that Texas A&M chancellor John Sharp isn’t happy with what’s happening with the program and is looking for a way to remove Sumlin.
While it’s clear that something has gone south with Sumlin and the time to remove him is now for the Aggies, there is one big problem, and that is the massive buyout to Sumlin’s contract.
While the buyout of Sumlin’s contract is indeed huge, it looks like that might not matter at all if what Brown say is correct. The Aggies certainly now sound like a program that wants to do whatever they can to get rid of Sumlin as their head coach. The fall of the program in just a few short days could also lead to their AD being let go as well, according to Brown.
It’s not every day that a school loses two five-star quarterback recruits, but that’s what has happened with Texas A&M, and the failure of the program to build on their initial 11-win season under Sumlin is what will ultimately do him and maybe others in.
The fall of Kevin Sumlin has certainly become an interesting one if he is indeed fired. He went from a hot commodity around college football that every school tabbed when it came to rumors, and now he is a coach that could soon be an ex-coach that can’t keep his top players. The fall of Sumlin could very well be real soon.
