Houston Rockets guard Ty Lawson will receive a two-game suspension from the NBA for his 2014 DUI arrest.

When the Houston Rockets acquired Ty Lawson from the Denver Nuggets during the NBA offseason, they knew that a day of reckoning would be coming. Well that day has officially arrived.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, the NBA is set to suspend Lawson for two games. The suspension stems from DUI charges filed in 2014 that was recently settled.

While at times talented on the court, Ty Lawson has nonetheless had his fair share of issues off of it. A review of the player’s Wikipedia page returns four separate arrests, including three DUI charges and a domestic violence issue, all from 2012 to 2015. The most recent charge came in July of 2015, just days before his trade to the Rockets.

The 28-year-old Lawson was the 18th overall selection of the 2009 NBA and at times has shown some promise on the court. In six seasons with the Nuggets, the point guard averaged 14.2 points and 6.5 assists per game. However, since being acquired by the Rockets, things have taken a decided down turn.

Lawson has seen his minutes cut in Houston, and he is no longer counted on to be a scorer in an offense that runs through James Harden. As such, Lawson has watched in points per game drop to a career-low 5.9 points while contributing just 4.2 assists per night. All of that has added up to a major disappointment for the Rockets, who were hoping that Lawson would take over the point guard role but instead have watched him play below replacement levels (-0.8 VORP).
