OT. Texas A&M. Germain Ifedi. 36. player. 42.
No players on the San Francisco 49ers will come right out and say it, but it’s hard not to believe that Anthony Davis kind of hung the team out to dry when he abruptly retired following the 2014 season at the age of 25. His exit left the team scrambling to find somebody to fill in his spot at right tackle, a task that has proven more difficult than any could’ve anticipated.

His replacement, veteran Erik Pears has mixed bouts of okay with really bad all season. To date he has allowed nine quarterback sacks and is also considered one of their weak points in the ground game. If there is a position that can afford in a clear cut upgrade, it’s right tackle.

The 49ers would count themselves fortunate if Germain Ifedi was still on the board at No. 36. Another in a long line of quality Texas A&M tackles, he’s a giant at 6’5″, 325 lbs but has good athletic traits and nimble feet that make him solid in pass protection. His movement skill and strength often allow him to turn open running lanes as well. He has played right tackle all season for the Aggies. So it’s a natural transition.
