Matt Cassel called for intentional grounding on interception (Video)
By Ian O'Brien
Matt Cassel may have ended his career as the Cowboys’ starting quarterback with his latest gaffe.
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Matt Cassel’s minutes will certainly be numbered after his latest blunder.
Cassel threw an interception in the first quarter on Saturday night against the New York Jets, but this was no ordinary interception. To add insult to injury, the Cowboys backup quarterback was penalized for intentional grounding. Video evidence shows that there was no receiver in sight that he was targeting.
Here is a video of what may be Cassel’s dumbest mistake yet.
It’s no secret that the Cowboys are hurting this season without a reliable quarterback since Tony Romo is out with another clavicle injury. The Cowboys are still technically in the playoff hunt with a weak NFC East, but dropping down to a 4-10 record would certainly not help matters.
It’s already been reported that Cassel could be replaced by Kellen Moore if he struggles.
Unless Cassel turns his night around, it appears that Moore taking over will become a reality. Luckily, the Cowboys defense has held strong thus far. The Jets still have yet to score a point, and they failed to convert on a fourth down late in the first quarter. It will be up to the offense to maintain the lead though.
