With a month and a half of the NBA season already in the past, we take a look at eight players who are not in the right situation.

The holiday season is reaching it’s peak, and that means Boogie Cousins is at the heart of trade rumors.

From Michael Scotto at SheridanHoops:

"Sacramento Kings All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins has drawn significant trade interest from the Boston Celtics, Miami Heat and Chicago Bulls, league sources tell SheridanHoops."

More from Charlotte Hornets

This quickly brings a few points to mind:

  • With the Celtics on the Boogie shortlist again, we can safely rule them out.
  • Who or what the heck would the Bulls give in order to get Boogie? Benny the Bull, Jimmy Butler’s T-Swift collection, every second round pick for the remainder of time, Cameron Bairstow and cash?
  • If there is anyone you can trust for NBA intel, it is “league sources.”

The legitimacy of this report aside, it is noteworthy that the trade talks for Cousins have resumed. Sacramento is a train wreck and Boogie’s incompatibility with coaching and supporting pieces is an easy scapegoat.

It is also noteworthy because it signals the approach of trade season in the NBA. With a month and a half of the season gone, teams around the league are figuring out which pieces are vital and which ones are expendable. Some players have more value as trade assets then on the game roster.

Avoiding the obvious choices – when doesn’t Dwight Howard need a change in scenery? – we take a look at some players who, while maybe not on the trade block, could find more success on other teams.
