Marcus Mariota hurts knee, questionable return
Marcus Mariota injury: questionable to return
The Tennessee Titans have had another awful season, but the one ray of light has been quarterback Marcus Mariota. After being drafted with the second-overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Mariota won the starting job out of training camp and has been solid. However, he is now hurt after getting his knee banged up against the New England Patriots in Week 15.
Mariota has played in 11 games heading into Sunday and has shown promise that he could be the franchise quarterback for Tennessee, which is currently in last place and looking at a long road ahead. Mariota has thrown for 2,786 yards and 19 touchdowns against 10 interceptions. Considering all of the nonsense surrounding Mariota including a coaching change, that is tremendous.
If Mariota can’t come back into the game, look for Zach Mettenberger to finish the contest. Mettenberger is one of the more talented backup quarterbacks in the league, playing in his second season out of the University of LSU. Mettenberger might be a starter down the road, but Tennessee made it clear that Mariota would not have any competition for the starting job.
Mariota has been overshadowed by first-overall pick Jameis Winston, but he has given Tennessee reason to be excited about 2016.
