Saints receiver Brandin Cooks made an unreal catch while falling down that fell just shy of a touchdown

New Orleans Saints second-year wide receiver Brandin Cooks didn’t fully live up to the hype that he had coming into the 2015 season. He’s had a productive year, but not quite the bursting-into-superstardom type season that many fans thought he would have this season. However, he came up with a huge catch late in the second quarter of Monday Night Football against the Detroit Lions.

With New Orleans trying to claw back into the game at the end of the first half after falling behind 21-3, Drew Brees had his team driving down the field. He saw Cooks down by the right sideline and threw a nice outside-shoulder throw to the second-year receiver that Cooks made a fantastic play on to haul it in:

That catch was initially ruled a touchdown on the field, but Cooks was pretty clearly down before he crossed the goal line on that play. I guess the ref wanted to reward him for making that grab by giving New Orleans six points. Unfortunately for Cooks and the Saints, though, that’s not how football works and they were forced to try and punch it in by other means.

As has been the case with this team all year, they were left wishing that Cooks would have gotten in as they were stuffed on their ensuing attempts to get into the end zone and their drive ended with a penalty to end the half.
