Charles Woodson announces he will retire following 2015 season

Charles Woodson announced that he will be hanging it up following the 2015 season. 

One of the most illustrious careers in NFL history will be coming to an end shortly. Oakland Raiders defensive back Charles Woodson announced on Monday that he will be retiring following the conclusion of this current season.

Woodson, one of the greatest players to ever don a uniform, is currently in his 18th NFL season and this is his second stint with the Oakland Raiders. After winning the Heisman Trophy in 1997 as a member of the Michigan Wolverines, where he excelled in all three phases of the game, he was drafted in the first round by the Raiders, beginning an amazing career.

Following the 2005 season he would move on to the Green Bay Packers, the place where he would earn the Super Bowl ring that eluded him for so long in 2010. That Super Bowl win further cemented his legacy as one of the best ever.

Prior to the 2013 season, Woodson decided that it was time to go back where it all started, signing with the Raiders for his second stint. While the teams weren’t particularly good, he wanted to help rebuild the once-proud franchise that he was a part of to begin his career in the NFL.

There’s no doubt that Woodson should already be getting fitted for his NFL Hall of Fame jacket, because he will be enshrined in Canton the first chance that he gets.
