Peyton Manning is now shooting down the word that he does not want to back up Brock Osweiler.

Although the Denver Broncos lost a close one on Sunday to the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road, the fact of the matter is that the team has been quite alright in the hands of Brock Osweiler under center. Since Peyton Manning went down with an injury a few weeks ago, the Arizona State product is 3-3, but has played quite well overall.

However, the Broncos may have a problem on their hands. Manning is nearing the point where he could return to the field, which has raised questions as to which direction Gary Kubiak and the team will go. Will they stick with the young gun, or will Manning, who wildly under-performed this season, get his job back? To matters a little more interesting, a recent report indicated that Manning has no interest in backing up Osweiler when he does return.

Well, Manning has something to say about that.

Following the Broncos’ loss on Sunday, Manning was very straightforward to the Denver Post that the reports of him being unwilling to play the backup role are untrue.

“It’s a flat-out lie. It’s insulting. And it’s distracting.” Manning said. “That’s 100 percent bull—-. No. 1, it is bull—-. And No. 2, it’s insulting. The worst part about being hurt is that a lot of people seem to know everything about you and speak for you, even when it’s somebody you don’t even know.”

For the sake of Osweiler, it was nice of Manning to be so vehement in denying the reports. With the way he’s been playing, you want to know that everyone on the team, including Manning, has your back as you’re trying to get this team to the playoffs.

On the other hand, you do have to wonder whether or not this really is the truth; that’s what comes with a quarterback controversy such as this in the NFL.
