Ray Lewis tells Odell Beckham, Jr. he went too far (Video)
After Odell Beckham, Jr.’s actions led to him receiving a suspension, Ray Lewis gave him some much needed advice.
The big story that everyone is talking about in the NFL right now, would be the actions of New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. and the three personal foul penalties he received on Sunday which led to his subsequent suspension.
Beckham, Jr. had been fighting with the Carolina Panthers’ Josh Norman all day on Sunday, which included Beckham, Jr. throwing a swing and laying some late hits on Norman. No one on the Giants did anything to attempt to calm him down, and he kept losing his cool on the field.
While Beckham, Jr. will be suspended for a game, which he is appealing, future Hall of Famer Ray Lewis had some advice for Beckham, Jr., telling the young receiver that he went too far in his actions.
Lewis was impressed that the young receiver had reached out to him for advice and that Beckham, Jr. was able to recognize that he messed up with his actions.
It’s one thing to have a teammate or coach tell Beckham, Jr. that he went too far, but to have one of the most passionate players of his era, and one that has been in those same shoes of Beckham, Jr. is another.
Now Lewis at the same time is certainly understanding of Beckham, Jr.’s position. He knows that he’s young and that he is going to make mistakes.
He also understands the cheap tactics that the Panthers were using such as bats and slurs to get under his skin, but at the same time he had to let to Beckham, Jr. know that as a leader he has to be above that and there for his team more importantly.
No one should hang this on Beckham, Jr. for the rest of his career. Lewis certainly isn’t going to do that and that’s why he’s trying to reach out to a young man that he sees a lot of himself in.
