Golden State Warriors

When you begin your season 24-0 there is not much to wish for as a team. The defending NBA champs are doing a fabulous job of whipping on teams early enough that they rarely have to play their starters beyond the midway point of the fourth quarter in games. Everything was, is clicking for the Golden State Warriors, whose only hiccup has come from the young Milwaukee Bucks. In that game, Klay Thompson was playing through a severely sprained ankle.

Fans will wish for the basics, good health, continued team chemistry and more wins, but there is one thing that has become overlooked.

Head coach Steve Kerr has yet to patrol the sidelines this season. It remains uncertain when he will return. As good of a job as interim head coach Luke Walton has done, he is still only a substitute teacher, with zero head coaching experience beyond his brief stint with the Warriors. How does he respond if Golden State goes on a slight skid?

Sure reigning league MVP Stephen Curry will not allow much room for complacency, but human nature is what it is. The Warriors have spent the entire offseason, and to this point the regular season with doubters chattering about whether or winning the title was a fluke. In an effort to prove everybody wrong Curry and company have done what they do best – shoot the damn lights out. On their wish list is confirmation that they are for real and the return of their head coach.

As a side note, Luke Walton has to be on the short list of any team with a coaching vacancy next season. He has attributed himself well on an interim basis.
