Washington Wizards

What is going on with the Washington Wizards? Here is a simple answer, right now there is a lot of losing.

Many people saw the Wizards as a dark horse to reach the Eastern Conference Finals. With guards John Wall and Brad Beal providing the scoring load, and Marcin Gortat providing the muscle inside the post, there is no way the Wizards should not be 10-15 right now. There are no excuses for the bad record and now there are calls for head coach Randy Wittman’s job once again. The Wizards must return to winning so that hell does not break loose in the nation’s capital. If they could perfect a pace of play, then things would be vastly different.

When analyzing the Wizards on paper one would immediately assume that they are made to run. This was the thought of Wittman and his coaching staff and it led to a different style of offense. There I one huge problem with the Wizards going for a faster pace – they do not have a very athletic frontcourt. Flip-flop the big men of the Utah Jazz with the Wizards’ group and the record in D.C. would resemble 15-10 or better, not what it is now.

This is not a shot at Gortat and the rest of Washington’s bigs, because they can bring it when the game slows down to a half court pace. Running does not fit what they do best, which is bruise the opposing team’s post players.

Washington needs to find a happy medium if they want to get back to their winning ways. Thankfully, no team has run away in the division so there is some time left.
