An amateur Turkish soccer player decided to kick his helpless opponent in the face, after being sent off for fouling him in the first place.
Mehmet Değirmenci was probably never going to be a household name. On Sunday though, the Turkish amateur soccer player managed to garner global headlines for all the wrong reasons.
After being sent off the pitch for a brutal foul, Degirmenci decided to takeout his anger on the same player that he had just sent to the ground. With Kayhan Karakaş laying on the pitch, Değirmenci decided to ruthlessly kick him in the face.
The scary part is that they allowed Karakas to continue to play following the incident. According to the Daily Sabah, Karakaş was provided with some treatment and sent back out on the pitch. However, he would eventually have to be taken to the hospital in an ambulance, after growing dizzy and falling to the ground.
"“I continued playing for a while as I was playing in a team that we have established with great efforts. I did not want to leave my friends alone. I thought I could return to the match after a tampon and ice treatment,” Karakaş said. Karakaş received nine stitches in his lip at the hospital.“Thank god that kick came near my jaw. If it had hit me directly in the face, it could have broken my nose, made me blind or break my neck,” Karakaş said, adding that he has been suffering from serious neck pain and hasn’t been able to sleep for the last two days."
Değirmenci’s club, Sanayispor, quickly released a statement following the match, apologizing to Karaka for the incident. In the statement, they had also declared that Değirmenci has officially been kicked off the team.
Being kicked off of Sanayispor may be the least of Değirmenci’s worries though. The aforementioned report is also suggesting that Karakaş, has opted to press full charges for “attempted manslaughter.”
